{"id":1267,"date":"2025-11-06T05:26:26","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T05:26:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inernews.online\/?p=1267"},"modified":"2025-11-06T05:26:26","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T05:26:26","slug":"typhoon-kalmaegi-bears-down-on-vietnam-after-114-killed-in-the-philippines-weather-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inernews.online\/?p=1267","title":{"rendered":"Typhoon Kalmaegi bears down on Vietnam after 114 killed in the Philippines | Weather News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p class=\"article__subhead\"><em>Meteorologists have warned that the typhoon has regained strength as it barrels towards Vietnam\u2019s central regions.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\">\n<p>The Philippines\u2019 disaster agency has confirmed that at least 114 people have been killed by Typhoon Kalmaegi, with another 127 people still missing, as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr declared a state of emergency and warned of another incoming super typhoon.<\/p>\n<p>The worst may also be yet to come with Kalmaegi, as meteorologists with the United States military\u2019s Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) reported that the storm had regained strength as it now bears down on Vietnam\u2019s central regions.<\/p>\n<section class=\"more-on\">\n<h2 class=\"more-on__heading\">Recommended Stories<!-- --> <\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"screen-reader-text\">list of 3 items<\/span><span class=\"screen-reader-text\">end of list<\/span><\/section>\n<p>In its most recent alert on Thursday morning at 10am local time in Vietnam (03:00 GMT), the JTWC said that Kalmaegi is \u201cbarrelling towards the Vietnamese coast and reaching peak intensity\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Upgrading the storm to Category 4, the JTWC said \u201cTyphoon Kalmaegi will continue rapid progress \u2026 and slam into the Vietnamese coast\u201d just north of the city of Quy Nhon in central Vietnam.<\/p>\n<p>The typhoon, named Tino locally, devastated large areas of the Philippines as it made landfall in eight areas in the centre of the country on Tuesday, in what is officially the deadliest natural disaster to hit the Southeast Asian archipelago nation this year.<\/p>\n<p>Scenes of widespread destruction have begun to emerge from the hardest-hit Philippine province of Cebu, from where the storm receded on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the more than 200,000 people who were evacuated have returned to find their homes destroyed, vehicles overturned, and streets blocked with piles of debris.<\/p>\n<p>The arduous cleanup effort has begun, with communities scraping mud from their homes and removing large pieces of debris from the streets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe challenge now is debris clearing,\u201d Raffy Alejandro, a senior civil defence official, told local radio news outlet DZBB.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese need to be cleared immediately, not only to account for the missing who may be among the debris or may have reached safe areas but also to allow relief operations to move forward,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Talking to news media following his meeting with disaster-response officials, President Marcos described the storm as a \u201cnational calamity\u201d. He said declaring a national emergency will give the government \u201cquicker access to some of the emergency funds\u201d and prevent food hoarding and overpricing.<\/p>\n<p>Marcos also warned of another storm approaching the northern Philippines \u2013 known internationally as Typhoon Fung-wong, and locally as Uwan \u2013 which he said \u201ccould be even stronger\u201d than Kalmaegi.<\/p>\n<p>The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said it expects Fung-wong to develop into a super typhoon by Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>PAGASA said it could enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility late on Friday or early Saturday, and has \u201can increasing chance of landfall\u201d in northern or central Luzon, the island on which the country\u2019s capital Manila is located.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">On Al Jazeera.<\/p>\n<p>Typhoon Kalmaegi <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/TinoPH?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#TinoPH<\/a> has moved away from the Philippines but left a trail of death and destruction.
