He has since been accused by US authorities of planning to transport drugs to the US alongside other charges.<\/p>\n<p>The US government\u2019s own data shows that Venezuela is not among the world\u2019s major drug producers; however, Trump administration officials have accused Maduro and others of working with the region\u2019s largest drug trafficking groups, including in Colombia and Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>While the Trump administration has claimed that its military buildup near Venezuela and maritime blockade of the country were focused on combating drug trafficking, Trump has laid claim to Venezuelan oil reserves since removing Maduro.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has also invited US oil companies to exploit Venezuela\u2019s oil\u00a0and said he wants proceeds from the sale of Venezuelan oil \u201cto benefit the people of Venezuela and the United States\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Brazil\u2019s President Lula says fate of Venezuelan president should be determined by the \u2018people of Venezuela\u2019 and \u2018not by foreign interference\u2019.
