aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\">\n<p>Qatari-backed investment fund Irth Capital has this month made a $47-per-share offer to buy pizza chain Papa John\u2019s International, marking a second takeover attempt after a previous bid alongside Apollo Global Management last year, the Reuters news agency reported, citing two sources familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n<p>The offer would value the company at $1.5bn. The Papa John\u2019s stock price surged nearly 20 percent after The Wall Street Journal first reported news of the bid and closed trading at $38.86.<\/p>\n<p>Private equity giant Apollo Global withdrew its offer to take the pizza giant private for $64 a share, Reuters reported in November.<\/p>\n<p>Following this development, activist investor Irenic Capital Management built \u2060a stake in Papa John\u2019s, adding to the \u2060mounting speculation about the pizza chain\u2019s future.<\/p>\n<p>Apollo and Irth Capital Management submitted a joint offer for the company at just above $60 per share earlier last year, before Apollo submitted a \u2060solo bid in early October, Reuters previously reported. Irth is no longer working with Apollo and its proposal includes \u2060backing from Brookfield Asset Management, one of the \u2060sources said.<\/p>\n<p>Irth, established in 2024 and backed by a member of the Qatari royal family, is led by co-founders Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulla Al Thani and Matthew Bradshaw.<\/p>\n<p>A deal for Papa \u200cJohn\u2019s would be among its first major transactions.<\/p>\n<p>Papa John\u2019s started in Jeffersonville, Indiana, in 1984 and went public in 1993.
