The tribunal\u2019s message came as it released its genocide verdict following four days of public hearings in Istanbul, Turkiye.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n The Gaza Tribunal has issued its final findings, saying that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza and that \u201cIsraeli perpetrators and their Western enablers\u201d should not be allowed to escape justice for their crimes.<\/p>\n The unofficial tribunal, which was established in London last November, gave its \u201cmoral judgement\u201d on Sunday, following four days of public hearings in Istanbul, Turkiye.<\/p>\n list of 3 items<\/span>end of list<\/span><\/section>\n Presided over by Richard Falk, a former United Nations special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, the initiative comes in the tradition of the Russell Tribunal, which heard evidence in 1967 of United States war crimes in Vietnam.<\/p>\n The year-long Gaza process involved collecting information, hearing witnesses and survivors, and archiving the evidence.<\/p>\n In its ruling, the tribunal\u2019s jury condemned the genocide in Gaza and crimes including the mass destruction of residential properties, the deliberate denial of food to the civilian population, torture, and the targeting of journalists.<\/p>\n After saying that Israel\u2019s war on Gaza shows global governance is failing to uphold its duties, the tribunal recommended that all \u201cperpetrators, supporters and enablers\u201d be held accountable and that Israel be suspended from international organisations like the UN.<\/p>\n The jury also found Western governments, \u201cparticularly the United States\u201d, complicit with Israel through the provision of \u201cdiplomatic cover, weapons, weapon parts, intelligence, military assistance and training, and continuing economic relations\u201d.<\/p>\n As well as calling for justice, the tribunal criticised two post-war plans put forward by US President Donald Trump and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, suggesting they \u201cignore the rights of the Palestinian people under international law\u201d while \u201cdoing nothing to rein in the perpetrators of genocide\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cPalestinians must lead the restoration of Gaza, and Israel and its enablers must be held responsible for all reparations,\u201d members of the tribunal said in a statement.<\/p>\n Given that it is not a court of law, the tribunal \u201cdoes not purport to determine guilt or liability of any person, organisation or state\u201d, but should rather be seen as a civil society response to the war on Gaza, the jury said.<\/p>\n \u201cWe believe that genocide must be named and documented and that impunity feeds continuing violence throughout the globe,\u201d the jurors explained. \u201cGenocide in Gaza is the concern of all humanity.
