Somalia said it dealt a \u201cmajor blow\u201d to al-Shabab and \u201ckey members\u201d of the armed group were killed.<\/p>\n The Somali army also \u201cseized weapons and military equipment, including BKM machine guns, RPGs and AK-47 rifles, as well as landmines that the terrorists had intended to use against civilians\u201d, the statement read.<\/p>\n The Defence Ministry said operations are ongoing to \u201cpursue the remaining Al-Shabaab elements, in order to ensure security, stability and the safety of civilians living in Somalia\u201d.<\/p>\n Somalia\u2019s federal government has been\u00a0battling al-Shabab, an al-Qaeda-linked group, since 2007.
