He arrived after visiting Algeria, his first stop on the trip.<\/p>\n His three-day visit to Cameroon will include a \u201cpeace meeting\u201d in the northwest city of Bamenda that has been engulfed in fighting from separatist forces, which have announced a three-day pause in hostilities during the pope\u2019s visit.<\/p>\n The Catholic leader\u2019s outspoken position on issues such as the rights and dignity of migrants and criticism of the US-Israel war on Iran has brought him into conflict with the Trump administration.<\/p>\n The pope has called Trump\u2019s threats to destroy Iranian civilisation \u201ctruly unacceptable\u201d, and US Vice President JD Vance, a convert to Catholicism, recently stated that the pope should \u201cbe careful\u201d when speaking about theology.<\/p>\n Trump himself has lashed out at the leader of the Catholic Church in a series of social media posts, accusing him of being \u201cweak on crime\u201d and too close to the political left.<\/p>\n The US president\u2019s attacks on the pope have caused dissatisfaction with some of his religious supporters.
