Since that December announcement, FIFA \u2060\u2060and national associations have engaged in talks and aim to resolve the issue.<\/p>\n<p>UEFA, European football\u2019s governing body, contacted FIFA after \u200c\u200chearing from several of its member associations regarding the costs of participating in the World Cup, including travel, operations and taxes, particularly in the United States. Canada and Mexico are the other host countries.<\/p>\n<p>FIFA said the prize money on offer is set to increase, with the world governing body projected to surpass $11bn in revenue in the current \u200c\u200cfour-year cycle of 2023 to 2026.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFIFA can confirm it is in discussions with associations around the world to increase available revenues,\u201d a FIFA spokesperson told the Reuters news agency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis includes a proposed increase of financial contributions to all qualified teams for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and of development funding available to all 211 member associations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FIFA World Cup 2026 will be groundbreaking in terms of its \u2060\u2060financial contribution to the global football community, and FIFA \u2060\u2060is proud to be in its strongest ever financial position to benefit the global game through its FIFA Forward programme.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-arc-image-770 wp-image-4507110\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/INTERACTIVE-Football-FIFA-History-of-the-World-Cup-1776670773.png?quality=80\" alt=\"INTERACTIVE-Football FIFA History of the World Cup-1776670773\" data-interactive=\"true\" fetchpriority=\"low\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The biggest slice of FIFA\u2019s initial funding package for the North American showpiece \u2013 $655m \u2013 \u2060\u2060was to be performance-based payments to the 48 participating nations.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, each qualified nation would be entitled to $1.5m to cover preparation costs.<\/p>\n<p>FIFA\u2019s 2025 annual report said \u200c\u200c93 percent of its total budgeted revenue had already been contracted by the end of 2025, thanks to the success of the inaugural 32-team Club World Cup held \u200c\u200cin \u200c\u200cthe US last year.<\/p>\n<p>The World Cup will run from June 11 to July 19.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Football\u2019s global governing body promises to increase the funding for the tournament to help cover participation costs.
