Government says it will run the administrative functions of Sri Lanka Cricket until reforms are implemented.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n Published On 29 Apr 2026<\/span>29 Apr 2026<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n Sri Lanka\u2019s government has taken control of the country\u2019s cricket board, saying it is a temporary measure designed to pave the way for \u201cstructural reforms\u201d.<\/p>\n \u201cAll administrative functions of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) will be temporarily brought under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, effective today,\u201d the ministry said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n list of 4 items<\/span>end of list<\/span><\/section>\n A committee will be appointed shortly \u201cto address the current issues in cricket and implement structural reforms\u201d, it added.<\/p>\n SLC is the country\u2019s wealthiest sporting body but has been plagued by allegations of corruption and mismanagement.<\/p>\n The world governing body, the International Cricket Council, suspended Sri Lanka for two months in 2023-2024, citing political interference in the running of the national board.<\/p>\n Four-time SLC President Shammi Silva resigned on Tuesday, along with his entire committee, after the government intervened.<\/p>\n Sri Lanka made an early exit from the T20 World Cup, which it cohosted with India in February-March.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n Government says it will run the administrative functions of Sri Lanka Cricket until reforms are implemented.
