But a \u201csharp escalation in violence\u201d had \u201creversed recent food security gains in Lebanon and pushed the country back into crisis\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFamilies who were just managing to cope are now being pushed back into crisis as conflict, displacement and rising costs collide, making food increasingly unaffordable,\u201d said Allison Oman Lawi, the WFP\u2019s country director in Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>Nora Ourabah Haddad, the FAO representative in Lebanon, said, \u201cCompounded shocks are undermining agricultural livelihoods and impacting food security, highlighting the urgent need for emergency agricultural assistance to support farmers and prevent further deterioration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A ceasefire that took effect on April 17 has reduced the intensity of the fighting between Israel and the armed group Hezbollah that has killed more than 2,500 people in Lebanon and displaced more than one million, according to Lebanese authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Israeli forces are operating in south Lebanon near the border, where residents have been warned not to return, and both sides have been trading fire despite the truce.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAcute food insecurity is likely to deepen without sustained and timely humanitarian and livelihood support,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FAO, WFP and Lebanon\u2019s government say 1.24 million people are \u2018expected to face food insecurity\u2019 at crisis levels or worse.
