{"id":21193,"date":"2026-05-02T10:28:07","date_gmt":"2026-05-02T09:28:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inernews.online\/?p=21193"},"modified":"2026-05-02T10:28:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-02T09:28:07","slug":"japans-takaichi-pledges-deeper-energy-cooperation-with-vietnam-energy-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inernews.online\/?p=21193","title":{"rendered":"Japan\u2019s Takaichi pledges deeper energy cooperation with Vietnam | Energy News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p class=\"article__subhead\"><em>Takaichi signs six agreements with Vietnam, including on technology, agriculture and space, during a trip to Hanoi.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"article-dates\">\n<p><span class=\"screen-reader-text\">Published On 2 May 2026<\/span><span aria-hidden=\"true\">2 May 2026<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\">\n<p>Japan\u2019s Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi says the country will boost ties with Vietnam, with a focus on energy and critical minerals.<\/p>\n<p>Takaichi met her Vietnamese counterpart, Le Minh Hung, on Saturday in Hanoi, where they signed six agreements on issues ranging from infrastructure to agriculture to space cooperation.<\/p>\n<section class=\"more-on\">\n<h2 class=\"more-on__heading\">Recommended Stories<!-- --> <\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"screen-reader-text\">list of 4 items<\/span><span class=\"screen-reader-text\">end of list<\/span><\/section>\n<p>\u201cThe two sides identified economic security as a new priority area for bilateral \u200ccooperation,\u201d Takaichi told reporters after the meeting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith regard to critical minerals \u2026 both sides agreed to strengthen close coordination to ensure stable supplies and reinforce supply chains,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Hung said the two leaders also \u201creaffirmed the importance of resolving disputes in the South China Sea through peaceful means based on international law\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Japan and Vietnam share concerns about China\u2019s territorial claims in the East and South China Seas, and both have sought to hedge against United States-driven trade disruptions by broadening economic and security ties.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"crude-oil-supplies\">Crude oil supplies<\/h2>\n<p>The push for deeper cooperation between the two states comes after \u2060new investment in Vietnam from Japan, one of its largest foreign investors, fell about 75 percent year-on-year to $233m in the first quarter, even as bilateral trade rose 12.3 percent to $13.7bn over the same \u2060period, according to Vietnamese government and customs data.<\/p>\n<p>Vietnam \u2060has been seeking support from Japan and other countries \u2060for oil supplies as conflict in the Middle East drives prices higher and disrupts supply chains.<\/p>\n<p>Under the $10bn Power Asia Initiative to support Asian countries\u2019 energy self-reliance, Japan will assist in arranging crude oil supplies \u2060for Vietnam\u2019s Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex, Hung said.<\/p>\n<p>Takaichi was also set to meet President To Lam, who is also the general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, on Saturday afternoon and deliver \u2060a keynote speech at Vietnam National University, marking a decade since former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe introduced Japan\u2019s \u201cFree and Open Indo-Pacific\u201d strategy.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Takaichi signs six agreements with Vietnam, including on technology, agriculture and space, during a trip to Hanoi.
