{"id":2908,"date":"2025-11-21T14:26:50","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T14:26:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inernews.online\/?p=2908"},"modified":"2025-11-21T14:26:50","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T14:26:50","slug":"why-has-trump-blasted-us-democrats-for-seditious-comments-donald-trump-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inernews.online\/?p=2908","title":{"rendered":"Why has Trump blasted US Democrats for \u2018seditious\u2019 comments? | Donald Trump News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\">\n<p>United States President Donald Trump has accused several Democratic members of Congress of \u201cseditious behaviour\u201d over their call for the military not to obey \u201cillegal\u201d commands.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, six Democrats \u2013 all veterans of the US military or its intelligence services \u2013 published a video on social media advising military and intelligence officials to \u201crefuse illegal orders\u201d that they might receive.<\/p>\n<section class=\"more-on\">\n<h2 class=\"more-on__heading\">Recommended Stories<!-- --> <\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"screen-reader-text\">list of 3 items<\/span><span class=\"screen-reader-text\">end of list<\/span><\/section>\n<p>In a furious string of posts on his Truth Social platform, Trump responded to the video, saying the US lawmakers should be arrested and even suggested that their behaviour could be \u201cpunishable by death\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, however, clarified to reporters in Washington, DC, on Thursday that Trump does not intend for members of Congress to be executed.<\/p>\n<p>What is behind the Democrats\u2019 warning video and Trump\u2019s latest threats?<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what we know:<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-did-democrats-say\">What did Democrats say?<\/h2>\n<p>On November 18, Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, Pennsylvania Representative Chris Deluzio, New Hampshire Representative Maggie Goodlander, Pennsylvania Representative Chrissy Houlahan and Colorado Representative Jason Crow posted a video on social media, directly addressing the country\u2019s current military and intelligence officers.<\/p>\n<p>In the video, the six Congress members said: \u201cWe know you are under enormous stress and pressure right now. Americans trust their military, but that trust is at risk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis administration is pitting our uniformed military and intelligence community professionals against American citizens. Like us, you all swore an oath to protect and defend this Constitution. Right now, the threats coming to our Constitution aren\u2019t just coming from abroad but from right here at home. Our laws are clear. You can refuse illegal orders. Elissa Slotkin (@SenatorSlotkin) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SenatorSlotkin\/status\/1990774492356902948?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">November 18, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2 id=\"how-has-trump-responded\">How has Trump responded?<\/h2>\n<p>In a post on Truth Social on Thursday, Trump lambasted the lawmakers and said their behaviour was \u201cseditious\u201d, seeking to incite people to rebel against his authority.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL. Their words cannot be allowed to stand \u2013 We won\u2019t have a Country anymore!!! An example MUST BE SET,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>In another post the same day, Trump shared a report by the Washington Examiner on the Democrats\u2019 video and suggested arresting them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is really bad, and Dangerous to our Country. Their words cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An hour later, Trump appeared to suggest sentencing the Democrat lawmakers to death because of their behaviour and wrote on Truth Social: SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked by White House reporters if the president would actually sentence the congresspeople to death, press secretary Leavitt said, \u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, she insisted that none of the President\u2019s orders or policies so far had been against the law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery single order that is given to this United States military by this commander-in-chief and through this chain of command \u2013 through the secretary of war \u2013 is lawful,\u201d she told a news briefing on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do things by the books. And to suggest and encourage that active-duty service members defy the chain of command is a very dangerous thing for sitting members of Congress to do,\u201d she said, adding that the Democrats \u201cshould be held accountable\u201d for \u201ctheir dangerous rhetoric\u201d.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"democrats-mean-by-illegal-orders\">What do Democrats mean by \u2018illegal orders\u2019?<\/h2>\n<p>The six Democrats did not specify which orders they were referring to as being \u201cillegal\u201d or against the Constitution.<\/p>\n<p>Before Trump responded to the video, Republican Representative of Arizona Eli Crane <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/video\/6385324906112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> Fox News that if the Democrats could not \u201cname the\u202funlawful orders\u201d, it would be cowardly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you can\u2019t name the\u202funlawful orders\u202fthat these guys are bringing up in their video, you know, that just shows me that you don\u2019t have the courage to even call out what you\u2019re talking about,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In a separate segment of Fox News, also on Thursday, anchor Martha Callum grilled Colorado Democratic Representative Crow about what orders they considered illegal.<\/p>\n<p>Referring to the unrest which took place after the killing of Black man George Floyd by a police officer in 2020 during Trump\u2019s first term as president, Crow responded, \u201cThe protests at Lafayette Square, where he said, \u2018Can\u2019t you just shoot them in the legs or something\u2019, that\u2019s his direct quote.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Callum said it was not an order, but \u201ca comment\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Crow replied: \u201cThat\u2019s coming from the president of the US to your generals \u2026 he\u2019s also threatened to send the military into Chicago and other cities and go to war with those cities. That is a very disturbing thing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Crow added that Trump had also alluded to sending troops to polling stations during elections and said that would be a violation of US law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUS criminal law prohibits troops from going to polling stations,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">MacCALLUM: You&#8217;re implying that Trump might do something they wouldn&#8217;t want to uphold. Stop illegal military strikes. Last month, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk said: \u201cThese attacks \u2013 and their mounting human cost \u2013 are unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration has argued that the strikes are necessary for anti-drug and counterterrorism operations, but Volker added that operations to counter illicit drug trafficking must adhere to international law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder international human rights law, the intentional use of lethal force is only permissible as a last resort against individuals who pose an imminent threat to life,\u201d he said and called on the US to stop what he said were \u201cextrajudicial killing of people aboard these boats\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In a joint statement late on Thursday, the Democrats in the video <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenatorSlotkin\/status\/1991568438804763103?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>:\u00a0\u201cNo threat, intimidation, or call for violence will deter us from that sacred obligation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat\u2019s most telling is that the president considers it punishable by death for us to restate the law,\u201d they said and added that Americans should unite and \u201ccondemn the President\u2019s calls for our murder and political violence\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a time for moral clarity. And yet Donald Trump is the person with the most power who can bring the temperature down, and instead, he threatens to have us killed,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer told the Senate on Thursday that what the president wrote \u201cis an outright threat, and it\u2019s deadly serious\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen Donald Trump uses the language of execution and treason, some of his supporters may very well listen,\u201d Schumer added. \u201cHe is lighting a match in a country soaked with political gasoline.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"what-does-the-us-military-oath-of-enlistment-say-about-following-legal-and-illegal-orders\">What does the US military oath of enlistment say about following legal and illegal orders?<\/h2>\n<p>Article 92 of the US Uniform Code of Military Justice states that any person who \u201cviolates or fails to obey any lawful general order or regulation\u201d or has \u201cknowledge of any other lawful order issued by a member of the armed forces\u201d and fails to obey it, or \u201cis derelict in the performance of his duties\u201d, shall be punished.<\/p>\n<p>The US Code of Military Justice is a federal law enacted in 1951 and applies to all active armed forces members, armed forces students, as well as active National Guard members.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ucmjlaw.com\/courts-martial\/military-crimes\/failure-to-obey-order-or-regulation\/#:~:text=An%20experienced%20military%20defense%20lawyer,for%20up%20to%206%20months\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to<\/a> the office of US Attorney Peter Kageleiry Jr, who specialises in military law, failure to obey lawful orders can lead to punishments like \u201cdishonourable discharge (from duty) and forfeiture of all pay and allowances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, an order is considered unlawful if it violates the US Constitution.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"has-trump-given-any-illegal-orders\">Has Trump given any illegal orders?<\/h2>\n<p>It is debatable. Some judges have said some of Trump\u2019s policies or orders in the recent past do violate US law.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, federal Judge Karin Immergut ruled that Trump had unlawfully ordered National Guard troops to Portland, Oregon.<\/p>\n<p>Immergut, a Trump appointee, rejected the administration\u2019s claim that protesters at an immigration detention facility were waging a rebellion that legally justified sending troops.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday this week, federal Judge Jia Cobb said Trump\u2019s military takeover of Washington, DC, in August \u2013 to combat violent crime there, he said \u2013 violates the Constitution and ordered the president to end the deployment of troops there.<\/p>\n<p>Cobb ruled that the president cannot deploy soldiers for \u201cwhatever reason\u201d he wants, and gave his administration 21 days to appeal the order before it goes into effect.<\/p>\n<p>In October, a federal judge in Chicago temporarily blocked Trump\u2019s deployment of hundreds of National Guard soldiers in Illinois. That ruling was upheld by the Chicago-based US Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit later in the month.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Trump threatened to use the\u00a0Insurrection Act to send soldiers to US cities, as the states of Illinois and Oregon continue to fight federal military deployments in court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have an Insurrection Act for a reason. If I had to enact it, I\u2019d do that,\u201d Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Human Rights Watch (HRW) has said the maritime strikes on Venezuelan boats by US forces amount to \u201cextrajudicial killings\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUS officials cannot summarily kill people they accuse of smuggling drugs,\u201d said Sarah Yager, Washington director at HRW. \u201cThe problem of narcotics entering the United States is not an armed conflict, and US officials cannot circumvent their human rights obligations by pretending otherwise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Salvador Santino Regilme, a political scientist who leads the international relations programme at Leiden University, told Al Jazeera in October that under Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter, the use of force by one state against another is prohibited except when authorised by the UN Security Council or exercised in legitimate self-defence under Article 51.<\/p>\n<p>And the US claim that strikes against \u201cdrug traffickers\u201d near Venezuela amount to self-defence \u201cappears legally untenable\u201d, Regilme said.<\/p>\n<p>But Trump has often indicated that he considers himself above the law.<\/p>\n<p>In February, he wrote on X: \u201cHe who saves his Country does not violate any Law.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">He who saves his Country does not violate any Law.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Donald J.
