{"id":295,"date":"2025-10-28T04:28:02","date_gmt":"2025-10-28T04:28:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inernews.online\/?p=295"},"modified":"2025-10-28T04:28:02","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T04:28:02","slug":"trump-japans-takaichi-sign-deal-to-secure-rare-earths-supply-donald-trump-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inernews.online\/?p=295","title":{"rendered":"Trump, Japan\u2019s Takaichi sign deal to secure rare earths supply | Donald Trump News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p class=\"article__subhead\"><em>US president heaps praise on Japan\u2019s first female prime minister as the leaders sign deals on the supply of rare earth minerals.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\">\n<p>United States President Donald Trump has met Japan\u2019s first female prime minister, Sanae Takaichi, in Tokyo, welcoming her pledge to accelerate a military buildup and signing deals on trade and critical minerals.<\/p>\n<p>Trump on Tuesday lavished praise on Takaichi, saying she would be a \u201cgreat\u201d leader, while the prime minister said she planned to nominate the US president for a Nobel Peace Prize, according to the White House.<\/p>\n<section class=\"more-on\">\n<h2 class=\"more-on__heading\">Recommended Stories<!-- --> <\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"screen-reader-text\">list of 4 items<\/span><span class=\"screen-reader-text\">end of list<\/span><\/section>\n<p>Takaichi \u2013 a close ally of Trump\u2019s friend and golfing partner, late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe \u2013 is also expected to offer a package of US investments under a $550bn deal agreed on this year, the Reuters news agency reported.<\/p>\n<p>This included shipbuilding and increased purchases of US soya beans, natural gas and pick-up trucks, the agency reported, citing sources familiar with the talks.<\/p>\n<p>Those gestures may temper any Trump demands for Tokyo to spend more on defending islands from an increasingly assertive China, which Takaichi sought to head off by pledging last week to fast-track plans to increase defence spending to 2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a very strong handshake,\u201d Trump said, as the pair posed for photos at the Akasaka Palace in downtown Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything I know from Shinzo and others, you will be one of the great prime ministers. I\u2019d also like to congratulate you on being the first woman prime minister. It\u2019s a big deal,\u201d Trump told Takaichi as the pair sat down for discussions with their delegations.<\/p>\n<p>Takaichi gifted Trump Abe\u2019s putter, a golf bag signed by Japanese major winner Hideki Matsuyama, and a gold-leaf golf ball, according to photos posted on X by Trump\u2019s assistant, Margo Martin.<\/p>\n<p>The US president was last at the palace, an ornate residence built in a European style, in 2019 for talks with Abe, who was assassinated in 2022.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"deal-on-critical-minerals\">Deal on critical minerals<\/h2>\n<p>Trump also praised Japan\u2019s efforts to buy more US defence equipment, while Takaichi said that Trump\u2019s role in securing ceasefires between Cambodia and Thailand, and Israel and Palestinian armed groups were \u201cunprecedented\u201d achievements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn such a short period of time, the world started to enjoy more peace,\u201d Takaichi told reporters through an interpreter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI, myself, was so impressed and inspired by you, Mr President,\u201d Takaichi added.<\/p>\n<p>The leaders then signed an agreement to support the supply of critical minerals and rare earths, as the countries seek to wean reliance off China\u2019s chokehold on the materials, which are crucial for a wide range of products, from smartphones to fighter jets.<\/p>\n<p>The White House, in a statement, said the objective of the deal was \u201cto assist both countries in achieving resilience and security of critical minerals and rare earths supply chains\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It added that the US and Japan \u201cjointly identify projects of interest to address gaps in supply chains for critical minerals and rare earths, including derivative products such as permanent magnets, batteries, catalysts, and optical materials\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Trump and Takaichi will later visit the US naval base in Yokosuka near Tokyo, which is home to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, part of the US military\u2019s powerful presence in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Trump will then meet business leaders in Tokyo, before travelling on Wednesday to South Korea.
