There\u2019s a curfew in place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that the army officer leading the coup, Denis N\u2019Canha, served as the head of the presidential guard.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe man supposed to protect the president himself has put the president under arrest,\u201d Haque said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, West Africa\u2019s ECOWAS and African Union observers expressed concern over the military takeover in Guinea-Bissau, according to a joint statement issued by the organisations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s regrettable that this [coup] announcement came at a time when the missions had just concluded meeting with the two leading presidential candidates, who assured us of their willingness to accept the will of the people,\u201d the observers said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>General Horta Nta Na Man declares himself as leader of the transition government.
