I didn\u2019t think I would cry, but I did,\u201d Norris said on the podium in the desert night at the floodlit Yas Marina Circuit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to thank my mum, my dad; they\u2019ve supported me since the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt feels amazing, I know now what Max feels like a little bit. I want to congratulate both Max and Oscar, I\u2019ve enjoyed it, it\u2019s been a long year!\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4157686\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4157686\" style=\"width:770px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-arc-image-770 wp-image-4157686\" src=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/AFP__20251207__87CV3EB__v1__HighRes__AutoPrixF1UaeRace-1765118504.jpg?w=770&amp;resize=770%2C513&amp;quality=80\" alt=\"Max Verstappen in action.\" fetchpriority=\"low\"\/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4157686\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Verstappen dominated the Abu Dhabi GP, but it wasn\u2019t enough to win a fifth straight world drivers\u2019 title, with the Red Bull driver finishing two points behind Norris in the 2025 final standings \u2013 423 to 421 [Fadel Senna\/AFP]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 id=\"a-great-year-for-mclaren\">A great year for McLaren<\/h2>\n<p>McLaren, headed by team principal Andrea Stella and CEO Zak Brown, secured back-to-back constructors\u2019 titles in Singapore last month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat was exciting, a little too exciting, awesome,\u201d said Brown.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat an effort, Lando and Oscar, what a fantastic season!\u201d added the American.<\/p>\n<p>Norris becomes Britain\u2019s first world champion since Lewis Hamilton in 2020 with this 13th drivers\u2019 crown for McLaren.<\/p>\n<p>The 26-year-old\u2019s success comes over half a century after Emerson Fittipaldi claimed the British marque\u2019s first drivers\u2019 title in 1974.<\/p>\n<p>A galaxy of F1 greats followed \u2013 James Hunt (1976), Niki Lauda (1984), Alain Prost (1985, 1986, 1989), Ayrton Senna (1988, 1990, 1991), Mika Hakkinen (1998, 1999) and Hamilton in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Assessing his path to glory, Norris added: \u201cAs we\u2019ve seen many times, anything can happen. So I just kept pushing. I wanted to fight to the end. [Verstappen and Piastri] certainly did not make my life easy this year.
