{"id":5794,"date":"2025-12-18T05:01:47","date_gmt":"2025-12-18T05:01:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inernews.online\/?p=5794"},"modified":"2025-12-18T05:01:47","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T05:01:47","slug":"us-kills-4-in-latest-pacific-ocean-attack-as-venezuela-tension-spirals-nicolas-maduro-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inernews.online\/?p=5794","title":{"rendered":"US kills 4 in latest Pacific Ocean attack as Venezuela tension spirals | Nicolas Maduro News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p class=\"article__subhead\"><em>New attack brings death toll to nearly 100 from US strikes on vessels in the eastern Pacific and Caribbean.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\">\n<p>The United States military said it killed four people in its latest attack on a vessel in the eastern Pacific Ocean, announcing the \u201clethal\u201d strike after resolutions seeking to rein in President Donald Trump\u2019s aggression towards Venezuela were voted down by US lawmakers.<\/p>\n<p>US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM), which is leading the burgeoning \u201cSouthern Spear\u201d military operation in the Latin America region, said the attack on Wednesday targeted \u201cfour male narco-terrorists\u201d without providing any evidence that the destroyed vessel was involved in drug trafficking.<\/p>\n<section class=\"more-on\">\n<h2 class=\"more-on__heading\">Recommended Stories<!-- --> <\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"screen-reader-text\">list of 4 items<\/span><span class=\"screen-reader-text\">end of list<\/span><\/section>\n<p>\u201cThe vessel was transiting along a known narco-trafficking route in the Eastern Pacific and was engaged in narco-trafficking operations,\u201d SOUTHCOM said in a post on social media alongside a video showing a speedboat being destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>Ordered by US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, the attack brings to almost 100 the number of people killed in US strikes on 26 vessels \u2013 that Washington has acknowledged \u2013 in the eastern Pacific Ocean and Caribbean since September.<\/p>\n<p>While legal experts have accused the US of carrying out a campaign of extrajudicial killings in international waters, Trump has justified the attacks as necessary to halt the flow of drugs into the US from drug cartels, particularly those based in Venezuela.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the Republican-majority House of Representatives voted 213 to 211 against a resolution directing the president to remove US forces from hostilities with or against Venezuela without congressional authorisation.<\/p>\n<p>The House also voted 216 to 210 against a resolution that would remove US forces from hostilities with \u201cany presidentially designated terrorist organization in the Western Hemisphere\u201d unless authorised by Congress.<\/p>\n<p>The defeat of the resolutions comes as a huge US military deployment is under way in Latin America, involving thousands of troops, Washington\u2019s largest aircraft carrier, and a nuclear-powered submarine, as Trump threatens military action to remove Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro\u2019s government.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Trump ordered a naval blockade of all oil tankers, which are under US sanctions, entering and leaving Venezuelan ports, a move that Maduro\u2019s government called a \u201cgrotesque threat\u201d that was aimed at \u201cstealing the riches that belong to our homeland\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, US soldiers boarded and seized the Skipper oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela and were reported to have brought the vessel to the US state of Texas to unload its oil cargo.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Times reports that Venezuela\u2019s navy has started to escort ships carrying petroleum products from ports following Trump\u2019s announcement of the sea blockade. Several ships left the country\u2019s east coast with a naval escort on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, the Times reported, citing three people familiar with the matter.<\/p>\n<p>Latin American leaders and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres have also expressed concerns as the prospect of war looms larger as tensions mount between Washington and Caracas.<\/p>\n<p>Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum called on the UN to act to prevent violence in Venezuela.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has not been present. It must assume its role to prevent any bloodshed,\u201d she said on Wednesday, reiterating Mexico\u2019s position of being against intervention and foreign interference in Venezuela.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil\u2019s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said he was \u201cconcerned about President Trump\u2019s attitudes towards Latin America, about the threats\u201d. Lula also said that he had urged dialogue between Caracas and Washington in a call with Trump earlier this month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe power of the word can outweigh the power of the gun \u2026 I said to Trump: \u2018If you are interested in talking to Venezuela properly, we can contribute.
