The Department will continue to fully comply with federal law and President [Donald] Trump\u2019s direction to release the files,\u201d the DOJ said.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"full-disclosure\">Full disclosure<\/h2>\n<p>A dozen US senators are calling on the Justice Department\u2019s watchdog to examine the department\u2019s failure to release all records pertaining to Epstein by Friday\u2019s congressionally mandated deadline, saying victims \u201cdeserve full disclosure\u201d and the \u201cpeace of mind\u201d of an independent audit.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Lisa Murkowski, a member of Trump\u2019s Republican Party, joined 11 Democrats in signing a letter on Wednesday urging Acting Inspector General Don Berthiaume to audit the Justice Department\u2019s compliance with the Epstein Files Transparency Act.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the [Trump] Administration\u2019s historic hostility to releasing the files, politicisation of the Epstein case more broadly, and failure to comply with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, a neutral assessment of its compliance with the statutory disclosure requirements is essential,\u201d the senators wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Full transparency, they said, \u201cis essential in identifying members of our society who enabled and participated in Epstein\u2019s crimes\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Representative Thomas Massie, a co-sponsor of the transparency act, posted on Wednesday on X: \u201cDOJ did break the law by making illegal redactions and by missing the deadline.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite the deadline, the Justice Department has said it plans to release records on a rolling basis. It blamed the delay on the time-consuming process of obscuring survivors\u2019 names and other identifying information.<\/p>\n<p>More batches of records were released over the weekend and on Tuesday. The department has not given any notice when more records might arrive.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reason why we are still reviewing documents and still continuing our process is simply to protect victims,\u201d Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche told the NBC television network\u2019s Meet the Press programme on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo the same individuals that are out there complaining about the lack of documents that were produced on Friday are the same individuals who apparently don\u2019t want us to protect victims,\u201d he argued.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>US Justice Department says it requires weeks to process newly found Epstein-related files under transparency and court rules.
