{"id":6987,"date":"2025-12-30T19:30:22","date_gmt":"2025-12-30T19:30:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inernews.online\/?p=6987"},"modified":"2025-12-30T19:30:22","modified_gmt":"2025-12-30T19:30:22","slug":"bitter-recriminations-between-russia-ukraine-as-war-eclipses-peace-push-russia-ukraine-war-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inernews.online\/?p=6987","title":{"rendered":"Bitter recriminations between Russia, Ukraine as war eclipses peace push | Russia-Ukraine war News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\">\n<p>Russia says it will take a more hardline stance in negotiations on ending the war in Ukraine after claiming Kyiv tried to attack a Russian presidential residence \u2013 allegations Ukraine says Moscow has fabricated to justify further aggression.<\/p>\n<p>Accusations and counteraccusations are rife as the war rages and the push for peace remains precarious.<\/p>\n<section class=\"more-on\">\n<h2 class=\"more-on__heading\">Recommended Stories<!-- --> <\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"screen-reader-text\">list of 4 items<\/span><span class=\"screen-reader-text\">end of list<\/span><\/section>\n<p>Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday that the alleged drone attack on one of President Vladimir Putin\u2019s residences in Novgorod, a region in northwestern Russia, had been intended to derail recent diplomatic efforts to negotiate an end to the conflict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis terrorist action is aimed at collapsing the negotiation process,\u201d Peskov said, adding that Russia\u2019s military \u200dknows when and \u2060how it will respond.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe diplomatic consequence will be to toughen the negotiating position of the Russian Federation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Russia said on Monday that Putin\u2019s residence had been targeted by Ukraine with 91 long-range drones that had been shot down by air defence systems with no one injured.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"no-such-attack-happened\">\u2018No such attack happened\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>Ukraine has denied that the attack took place, calling the Russian allegations \u201cfalse claims\u201d intended to undermine the peace process.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on X, Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha said Moscow had not provided any plausible evidence to back up its accusations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd they won\u2019t. Because there\u2019s none. No such attack happened,\u201d he said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Sybiha said Russia has \u201ca long record of false claims\u201d, calling them its \u201csignature tactic\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey also often accuse others of what they themselves plan to do,\u201d he said. \u201cTheir words should never be taken at face value.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that Ukraine was \u201ddisappointed and concerned\u201c by statements by the United Arab Emirates, \u200bIndia and Pakistan expressing concern over what he said was an attack that never \u200chappened.<\/p>\n<p>Asked by reporters whether Russia could provide evidence of the drone attack, Peskov said air defences shot the drones down but the question of wreckage was for the Ministry of Defence.<\/p>\n<p>He said attempts by Ukraine and Western media to deny the incident were \u201cinsane\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>No evidence has been provided by \u200cRussia. The Defence Ministry has issued only a statement that said 91 drones had been shot down while they were heading to Putin\u2019s Novgorod residence, which is about 360km (225 miles) north of Moscow.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on Monday, United States President Donald Trump, who has spearheaded the push to broker peace in Ukraine, said he had been informed of the alleged attack in a phone call with Putin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was very angry about it,\u201d he said, adding that he would find out whether there was evidence to support the allegation.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"european-leaders-hold-talks\">European leaders hold talks<\/h2>\n<p>The dispute over the attack played out as key leaders from Europe and Canada held discussions on advancing the peace process.<\/p>\n<p>After the talks, German \u200dChancellor Friedrich Merz posted on social media that the group was \u201cmoving the peace process forward\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTransparency and honesty are now required from everyone \u2013 including Russia,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>In the wake of the meeting, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said at a government meeting that he believed \u200dpeace could be achieved in Ukraine in a matter of weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeace is on the horizon. There is no doubt that things have happened that give grounds for hope that this war can end, \u200dand quite quickly, but \u2060it is still a hope, far from 100 percent certain,\u201d Tusk said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I say peace is on the horizon, I\u2019m talking about the coming weeks, not the coming months or years. By January, we\u2019ll all have to come together \u2026 to make decisions about the future of Ukraine, the future of this part of \u200bthe world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said security guarantees offered by Washington to Kyiv gave a reason to believe the conflict could end soon but Ukraine would need to compromise on territorial issues.<\/p>\n<p>Russia wants Kyiv to withdraw its troops from \u200cthe parts of the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine that Moscow has failed to occupy in almost four years of war.<\/p>\n<p>It remains the key sticking point in the talks, ceding territory or not.<\/p>\n<p>Kyiv wants fighting \u200dhalted along the current front lines, and Washington has proposed a free economic zone if Ukraine pulls its forces back.<\/p>\n<p>Zelenskyy has insisted Kyiv won\u2019t give up land and the nation\u2019s constitution also forbids it.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"black-sea-ports-attacked\">Black Sea ports attacked<\/h2>\n<p>As leaders met for talks, Kyiv said Russia had attacked \u200dinfrastructure in the \u200dOdesa region, damaging a civilian ship and facilities in the Black Sea ports of Pivdennyi and Chornomorsk, which are crucial for Ukraine\u2019s foreign trade and integral to its wartime economy.<\/p>\n<p>In a post on Telegram, Deputy Prime Minister Oleksii Kuleba said \u2060a Panama-flagged civilian ship loaded with grain was damaged and oil storage tanks hit with one person wounded.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is yet another targeted attack by Russia on civilian port infrastructure.
