{"id":9411,"date":"2026-01-21T14:50:47","date_gmt":"2026-01-21T14:50:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/inernews.online\/?p=9411"},"modified":"2026-01-21T14:50:47","modified_gmt":"2026-01-21T14:50:47","slug":"us-russia-envoys-meet-in-davos-as-ukraine-reconstruction-plan-postponed-russia-ukraine-war-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/inernews.online\/?p=9411","title":{"rendered":"US, Russia envoys meet in Davos as Ukraine reconstruction plan postponed | Russia-Ukraine war News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p class=\"article__subhead\"><em>US envoy Witkoff to meet Putin on Thursday, the Kremlin confirms, as the signing of an $800bn Ukraine deal is put on hold.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div aria-live=\"polite\" aria-atomic=\"true\">\n<p>Envoys for United States President Donald Trump and Russian President \u200dVladimir Putin have met at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, amid reports that the signing of a $800bn \u201cprosperity plan\u201d was postponed due to tensions over Greenland.<\/p>\n<p>Kremlin \u200cspokesman Dmitry Peskov \u200don Wednesday said Moscow would not comment on \u2060talks in Davos, but stressed the importance for Russia of receiving information on discussions between \u200cthe US, European leaders and Ukraine.<\/p>\n<section class=\"more-on\">\n<h2 class=\"more-on__heading\">Recommended Stories<!-- --> <\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"screen-reader-text\">list of 3 items<\/span><span class=\"screen-reader-text\">end of list<\/span><\/section>\n<p>Russian state-run news agency TASS reported that US special envoy Steve Witkoff, Trump\u2019s son-in-law Jared Kushner and Russian special envoy Kirill Dmitriev met on \u200dTuesday \u2060for more than two hours on the forum\u2019s sidelines.<\/p>\n<p>The agency quoted Witkoff as saying the talks had been \u201cvery positive\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Later, Witkoff told The Associated Press news agency that he and Kushner were planning to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Ukrainian delegation on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The Kremlin confirmed that the meeting that will take place in Moscow was on Putin\u2019s schedule.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"derailed-reconstruction-plan\">Derailed reconstruction plan<\/h2>\n<p>Meanwhile, the United Kingdom\u2019s Financial Times (FT) newspaper reported on Wednesday that tensions in the NATO alliance over Trump\u2019s bid to acquire Greenland had derailed the signing of a Ukraine reconstruction plan, which was originally scheduled to take place in Davos.<\/p>\n<p>The so-called \u201cprosperity plan\u201d to be agreed between Ukraine, Europe and the US was not being shelved indefinitely and could still be signed at a later date, the newspaper added.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody is in any mood to stage a grand spectacle around an agreement with Trump right now,\u201d one official told the FT. REUTERS\/Nina Liashonok\" fetchpriority=\"low\"\/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4256979\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Residents stand at the site of a Russian drone attack, amid Russia\u2019s attacks on Ukraine, near the city of Chornomorsk, Odesa region, Ukraine, January 21, 2026 [Nina Liashonok\/Reuters]<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u200dNATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte warned \u200dallies not to allow tensions over Greenland to distract \u2060them from the need \u200bto defend Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe \u200dfocus on \u2060Ukraine should be the number one priority; it is crucial for European and \u200bUS security,\u201d \u200cRutte said in a panel discussion in Davos on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI \u200cam really worried \u2060that we lose sight and that in the meantime \u200cUkrainians won\u2019t have enough interceptors to defend themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"zelenskyy-to-skip-davos\">Zelenskyy to skip Davos<\/h2>\n<p>Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Tuesday he would travel to Davos only if documents on security guarantees with the US and a \u201cprosperity plan\u201d were ready to be signed there.<\/p>\n<p>The president said he would instead remain in Kyiv to oversee relief efforts, as Russian missile and drone attacks continued to batter Ukraine\u2019s energy system.<\/p>\n<p>Russia has intensified its onslaught in recent months, concentrating missile and drone attacks on the cities of Kyiv, Kharkiv and Dnipro and often targeting Ukraine\u2019s energy infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>With sub-zero temperatures, the attacks mean hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians are struggling with lengthy interruptions to power and water supplies.<\/p>\n<p>Ukrainian authorities on Wednesday said overnight Russian attacks on the central Ukrainian city of Kryvyi Rih killed two people and injured a woman. The missile and drone attack also damaged several buildings.<\/p>\n<p>A Russian drone was also reported to have exploded near a school on Tuesday in the village of Dobryanska community, in the Chernihiv region. No casualties were confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>Russian authorities said Ukrainian \u200bdrone fragments ignited a fire at the Afipsky oil refinery in the southern Krasnodar region, causing no casualties.
